Yet, when the Christmas special came on, I was pretty impressed. The lesson, while sarcastic in nature (and everybody knows how much I enjoy sarcasm!), was pretty spot on.
It is the holiday season, and even this year I have been a little bit on the grumpy side. I will admit, part of that is due to being homesick. Which in effect is actually compounded by the stress of going home. I know - ironic isn't it?
I miss my family but with the stress of the holidays, I have just gotten downright grumpy. Just imagine the normal cost of Christmas. Now compound that with trying to find the perfect gift, but it has to be small enough to travel with you. On top of that, add an additional couple thousand dollars to what is already an expensive holiday, and that is what we are expected to deal with.
Now, we also have to worry about the weather. After all, it is Winter and the likelihood of getting snow is pretty good once we get past the snowbelt, and maybe even the small portion of the drive through the mountains. I just hope and cross my fingers that the snow holds off until we are off the road and safe and sound at my parents house.
But, as I watched Spongebob yesterday, something hit me. Why am I stressing? Adding stress doesn't help matters. Besides, we always figure it out. We have done this countless number of times and usually everything goes smoothly. So, what I have found, is I have been a cranky jerk for nothing.
Christmas isn't about the money you spend, it is about the people you spend your holiday with. Remember that this year... and if you have been a little on the cranky side like I have been, hopefully this song will help put you in the right mood.
Today's feature for Music Monday is none other than:
Spongebob with "Don't Be a Jerk - It's Christmas!"
I can completely relate to the stress of the holidays...I have not bought one gift for anyone -- not one. What's more, we celebrate Hanukkah too, so I'm still trying to get through that holiday. BTW, My kids watch Spongebob too and he also makes me laugh. Spongebob may not teach lessons but what I like about him is that he's a good guy and is always a good friend. And you are right about Christmas being about family and friends...have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteYeah - I guess there are more things that are good about Spongebob! He also teaches the value of friendship. And wow - can't believe you haven't started yet! That is crazy!
DeleteStacy, this video so put a smile on face and I can't help, but love Spongebob, too. That said great message here and am trying to not stress too much either, but this time of the year seems to bring that out even in calmest of people I suppose, but thanks for the gentle reminder :) :)
ReplyDeleteGlad it put a smile on your face. Sometimes when we are stressed... we just need that! :)
DeleteActually Festival time is usually most stressful time cause of the ongoing work and then the extra work piled upon such as decorations, cleaning, shopping etc.
ReplyDeleteThis was a good reminder...thanks Stacy!
I usually love the holidays. That usually doesn't bother me. That being said.. I don't know what is wrong with me this year! I am just a ball of stress! Ugh
DeleteGreat reminder,Stacy!I'm totally stressing about Christmas this year and I really do need to remember that it isn't about the gifts and the money spent.:)
ReplyDeleteI am usually pretty good about staying within budget for the holidays. And we never use credit cards. We stopped that long ago. That being said... the main thing stressing me out is our travel. I am nervous about the drive and everything that revolves around it! Yikes!
DeleteOkay so um...travelling to see family is expensive - I told my family in CO that that was my present because there is no way I'm sending a big box out that way. Hehehe. Now...I still have to find something for my mom-in-law....that could be interesting. Hang in there. Thinking of you and hoping everyone's feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking... if you would have been in Colorado Springs for Christmas we might have actually crossed paths. How awesome would that have been. Luckily we don't exchange gifts with too many people back home... however, my kids won't understand if Santa doesn't show up... so present shopping it is! :)
Delete...it is good that my wife enjoys the Christmas, what with the decorating the house and all the other...aspects, otherwise I would have to rely on the calendar to know the holiday, if it were left to me.
ReplyDeleteBut I still would agree with you, the stresses associated with this particular holiday are exceptional. They can, at best cannot be easily dismissed, at worst can ruin the whole holiday season for those that do like the underlying ideas being celebrated.
Good Post
My husband is all about Halloween... and I am the one all about Christmas. However, it is funny because this year my husband had to remind me. I am just too stressed out to care!
DeleteStacy - First, I hope you have a safe trip (both ways) over the holidays. Second, I guess I'm an unfortunate soul that has never watched Sponge Bob. The ending of Ren & Stimpy stopped my Nickolodean viewing as I suffered for years after. lol I'm afraid it's my wife that enjoys the Christmas holiday more than I. This year, in particular, it looks pretty barren in the gift giving arena, which irks me off even more. Oh, she'll change my temperment as the day draws closer, she always does. I just can't wait until it's over and I can go to the mall without having to search three hours for a parking space! : ) Be safe!
