The Epic Cup of Coffee

I never used to drink coffee every single day. But a couple years ago when my husband and I decided I was going to stay home to raise the kids, coffee became a part of my morning routine.

Now, mornings just aren't the same
without my cup of coffee.

So, about a week ago, when I realized my coffee pot had thrown up black sludge all over my counter top and even drained down the wall, I was concerned. And then when it sounded like a chipmunk coughing up a nut, I knew the end was near.

But I wasn't going to let the coffee pot go without a fight. Mainly because I have expensive taste in coffee pots. In fact, I am pretty particular. If I can't have my coffee without the hassle of the coffee pot, I am not happy. This leaves me with two options... The brew station which allows you to put your cup underneath and it dispenses the coffee... or the Keurig... which is just way out of my budget right now.

Of course, there is always option number 3 - clean the heck out of the coffee pot and hope for the best. This is like using those life paddles in the emergency room. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
This was goign to be an epic cup of coffee!

So I poured my vinegar and water concoction and ran it through. I did this three times. Then I ran plain water through... another 3 times... and then I used a magic eraser to get all the stained coffee off of ever single surface I could reach. As if that wasn't enough, I grabbed the Q-tips to get into all the knock and crannies. It took me almost 3 hours but by the time I was done, it could almost be mistaken for a new coffee pot.

I couldn't wait
to brew a pot.

Let me tell you, I don't know if the coffee pot is still leaking or not, but that was the best cup of coffee I have had in a very long time!

  1. Sounds awesome, but will tell you I caved last fall and got a Keurig. I got it on sale at Target and even got a $25 Gift Card for my purchase. Never been so happy with a purchase in my life and even use it just for boiling water quickly. Yeah, it is the little things that get me every time!!

    1. Yeah - that is probably going to be my next coffee maker but with all the issues with the cars I really don't want to splurge on it right now. Maybe if I am lucky I can get this sucker to last at least until next Christmas! :)

  2. Stacy - My wife actually loves her water (that's what I call it since it's so weak) and I like it strong enough to hold up a spoon on its own. So, I've had to resort to instant. This last week I tried drinking convenience store coffee, but the oil floating around atop the coffee has quickly ended that. Looks like you've got things under control. Great job!

  3. Oh yes! A good cup of coffee really is worth all that - even 3 hours of cleaning, lol! I drink decaf coffee, but I still start each day with it. I tried herbal tea - it's just not the same. Can have that later in the day, gotta have the coffee first thing!

  4. Glad to hear you didn't have to buy a new pot. Those things are getting expensive. I think the Keurig is overrated and bad for the environment (if you get the K-cups). My husband got ours as a Xmas gift. For me, it's like reality tv. I don't need it, but if you put it in front of me, I'll get sucked in. So, I'm brewing a pot of coffee with our regular pot in the morning and one cup with the K in the early afternoon. Becoming spoiled.

  5. My husband lives for his coffee maker too -- says it was the best present I ever got him. I on the other hand am a tea drinker and only drink ICED tea, even in the dead of winter. It drives my husband crazy b/c I rarely make it myself. I always go to Dunkin donuts or some other place that makes it the way I like it. He keeps threatening to buy me my own iced tea maker. Glad your cup was the best!

  6. That's AWESOME! Sometimes that's just the thing they need. When my hubby's coffee pot acts up, this is exactly what we do to fix it (lol...I don't drink coffee). May your coffee pot live long and prosper! :D

  7. Makes you wonder what you were drinking from the old, dirty pots, eh? :) Glad it's back to supplying you with good cuppa!

  8. Coffee is the one thing I WON'T give up. I've quit smoking, drink once or twice a year, gone vegan. Coffee is the last thing I have, and doggone it I'm keeping it! As the proud owner of a keurig, I would definitely recommend it. I'll never stray! And I got mine really cheap. If you pair the right deals together, you can really bring the cost down. We used a rebate, a coupon code, and a sale at kohl's. It was awesome, like the stars just aligned for us, lol.
