For me personally, I have never needed glasses. I don't know what it feels like to start having blurred vision. My husband on the other hand, is blinder than a bat.
So we made an appointment and took her in to get her eyes checked. I guess we know who she is starting to take after and it is not me.
As of right now, she only needs to wear them while she is reading. But I keep catching her wearing them even when she is not reading. I think she likes the way they look.
I am sure the novelty will wear off once she realizes she is stuck with glasses permanently. However, it does give me the perfect song for Music Monday...
I Can See Clearly Now from Jimmy Cliff
I remember when I had to get glasses. I was 13, and have had to wear them for watching TV since. I also have to wear them when I drive. I can't do contact lenses...the thought of touching my eye freaks me out! Luckily, there are MUCH better frames out there for glasses these days..as I can see from what your daughter is wearing. So cute!
ReplyDeleteYuck... I can't imagine having to deal with contact lenses. And I will even admit, one time I even tried to get glasses just because I wanted to look different. But I wanted them on my terms. It doesn't usually work that way! :)
DeleteI've been wearing glasses since I was 8. Yeah, I got picked on. A lot. When I was 16, my parents got me contacts and for once, I felt like a normal kid again. Now, I switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing (taking pics - contacts, vegging around the house - glasses).
ReplyDeleteBTW, she looks ADORABLE in her frames! :)
I love those frames. I am so glad she decided to go with those. But they do make her look so much older. And she got a great reaction from the kids at school. I guess times have really changed. :)
DeleteShe looks cute with those glasses.
ReplyDeleteI remember I was also in aww of it when I got my glasses in school...wore it everywhere. Let her have fun and be in the moment :)
She is really enjoying them. I guess what a difference it makes when you can see! :)
DeleteI have worn glasses for as long as I can remember. In fact, I look like a big-headed freakazoid without them. My friends daughter says it best "glasses are jewelry for your face".
ReplyDeleteI love that saying. I am going to have to tell her that! :)
DeletePoor kid. I can relate on a different level: I have to wear glasses, but to protect the eye I can see out of, haha. Maybe sometime she'll be able to wear contacts.
ReplyDeleteShe is really enjoying them. So much in fact that I don't think she will even want contacts anytime soon! :)
DeleteYour daughter looks adorable in her glasses and I can relate, because I had to have glasses when I was in 2nd grade. My eyes progressively worse until I had Lasik surgery at 22 years old. That said, I loved my pink glasses that had Lucy from Peanuts on them back when I first got them as a kid :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom had Lasik surgery. It was so strange seeing her without glasses after her pretty much wearing them all my life. And she never had the cool ones like you did! :)
DeleteI buy all of my glasses at eyebuydirect.com because they are good and CHEAP... so let her fashion herself up... all you need to do is enter her prescription into their system and then shop for glasses... I have four pair... they range from $40 to $8... yep... $8....
ReplyDeleteWow - $8 bucks for a pair of glasses. I am definately going to have to check into that! Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteAww - she looks so cute. I used to wish I could wear glasses!
ReplyDeleteI think it is so odd that when we don't have them we want them and when we have them we wish we didn't. I wished that I had them once too when I was younger. I got a pair for reading and then only wore them when I felt like it. Now, I still have the glasses but my eyesight is actually better than perfect. Crazy!
DeleteGreat song as usual. My youngest son recently needed to get glasses too. Right now he only wears them at school to see the board. I also wrote a post a while back about him needing glasses and I felt like the transition was easier for girls than boys -- another one of those gender things. Girls look at them like a new accessory. Boys worry about playing sports with them, etc. Anyway, she looks great in them!
ReplyDeleteI could see how the transition would be much different for boys vs. girls. My oldest isn't much of a sports enthusiast so I don't think she will ever run into that. And now that she has them, I am not so sure I want her to be either! :)
DeleteStacy - Unfortunately, I've been held captive by the Gods of Glasses since the 5th grade. They were a pain in the neck in sports, and everywhere else one went to have fun. Yet, I found that my eyes would reject the contact lenses once I got them. So, back to glasses. Perhaps I'll be free of them in the next world. Or, maybe not. lol Great post!
